Need land clearing in Montgomery, TX? MTM Land Clearing clears wooded acreage, lake lots, and new homesites across Montgomery and the west side of Lake Conroe. The city itself is small, about five square miles, and most Montgomery addresses sit out in the county on gated acreage or lakefront ground. We run from Spring, up I-45 and out TX-105, with skid steers, forestry mulchers, and excavators. Call (281) 432-7360 for a free estimate.
This is rolling Piney Woods on sandy soils over clay. The Conroe soil series takes its name from the county seat, a gravelly loamy fine sand over sandy clay that grows shortleaf, longleaf, and loblolly pine with sweetgum, post oak, red oak, and hickory. Most of it has been in timber for a century. Along Lake Creek and the Lake Conroe shoreline, the ground flattens into loams that hold a perched water table from December to April, which is when clearing and grading get harder and the plan matters more.
We clear for homeowners, builders, and land buyers across the area: one-to-seven-acre estate lots in Crown Ranch, wooded homesites in Lake Creek Ranch, pads and driveways in Woodforest, and lakefront lots in Bentwater, Grand Harbor, and Walden. Homeplace is opening 2,000 acres off FM 2854 starting in 2026, and FM 1097 is being widened toward the lake, so the clearing work here keeps growing. Estimates are free and the company is fully insured.

Land clearing anchors our Montgomery work, with the full menu on the same job: forestry mulching that turns pine understory into ground cover, tree removal and stump grinding, grading and dirt work for pads and driveways on rolling ground, excavation, demolition, and fence line mulching for acreage boundaries.
Montgomery is split between a small city and a lot of county. Inside the city limits, the City of Montgomery's Development Services office issues building permits, and its tree preservation ordinance, adopted in 2019, applies to clearing all or part of a property whether or not a development follows. It requires protected-tree removal permits and pre-development clearing permits, orange fencing around the critical root zone before clearing, and two preserved or planted trees on every new house lot. Homeowners removing a tree from their own residential lot, timber harvesting, and land under active agricultural or timber management are exempt. Outside the city, Montgomery County's development permit regime took effect October 1, 2025. A residential non-structure permit covers land disturbance in and outside the floodplain unless the job fits an exemption. The common one is residential clearing outside the floodplain of up to half the property, capped at 2.5 acres, with no drainage changes. Any work in the 100-year floodplain needs a permit, and the county's floodplain office in Conroe handles it. Lake Creek is the water to watch: the National Weather Service gauge above The Woodlands puts county roads under water at moderate flood stage, and the West Fork of the San Jacinto set its record during Harvey. Septic runs through the county's environmental health office. Growth around the lake is steady, with Woodforest, one of the largest master-planned communities in the county, and Homeplace breaking ground on 2,000 acres.
